Michael Berube is the acting deputy assistant secretary for transportation in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. In this role, he oversees EERE’s Sustainable Transportation sector, which includes the Vehicle, Fuel Cell, and Bioenergy Technologies offices. This portfolio focuses on research and development to increase access to domestic, clean transportation fuels and improve the energy efficiency, convenience, and affordability of transporting people and goods to support U.S. energy security, economic productivity and competitiveness. Previously, he led the Vehicle Technologies Office. In this post, he led an array of activities that help reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and secure a clean energy future. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the automotive industry to his new EERE post, specifically in the areas of environmental compliance, energy and safety policy, product development and marketing. He has worked on a broad range of electric vehicle, connected car and advanced powertrain initiatives. Michael also led multiple environmental and energy initiatives within the Chrysler Corporation. Mr. Berube has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from MIT. He later returned to MIT as both a graduate student and researcher where he received a master's degree in the Technology and Policy Program and a master's degree from the Sloan School of Management. He was recognized for his early work on corporate sustainability and led research for the MIT International Motor Vehicle Program.
Mike Mikula joined Ford Motor Company in 1994 as a process engineer and was selected to participate in its prestigious four-year Manufacturing Leadership Program in 1997. He then held a series of management positions at Ford, including overseeing the $1.6 billion overhaul of manufacturing processes at four different plants to introduce Ford’s award-winning EcoBoost engine in 2006. Following that, he led Ford’s Van Dyke manufacturing plant increase in production from 800,000 units to 1.8 million units per year from 2009 to 2012. He was appointed assistant plant manager at Van Dyke in 2014 and plant manager of Rawsonville Components Plant in 2016. In October 2017, Mr. Mikula was appointed to the role of powertrain global chief engineer for manufacturing system and infrastructure at Ford. In this role, he oversaw the manufacturing processes for engines, transmissions, axles, batteries, and e-motors across the globe, playing a critical part in the introduction of next-generation electrical and hybrid technologies. In August 2018, Mr. Mikula was named the chief engineer of the advanced manufacturing organization at Ford with global responsibilities for introducing technology in practical ways to address existing challenges while pursuing manufacturing methods that combine technologies to maintain Ford’s position as an industry leader in manufacturing. Mr. Mikula attended college at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago where completed both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
Mark Fields served as president and chief executive officer of Ford Motor Company and was a member of the company’s board of directors from 2014-2017. He joined Ford in 1989 and progressed through a number of leadership positions in the U.S., South America, Asia and Europe. He was executive vice president and president of the Americas, executive vice president and CEO of Premier Automotive Group and Ford Europe, chairman and CEO of the Premier Automotive Group from 2002 to 2004, and was president and chief executive officer of Mazda Motor Corporation from 2000 to 2002. Mr. Fields currently serves as a senior advisor to TPG, and is a director on the following TPG portfolio companies: CLEAResult, Ellucian and Transplace. He also serves as an independent director on Qualcomm, Inc.
The future of transportation is centered on electric mobility solutions. Kelly Helfrich, manager of electric vehicles (EVs) & charging infrastructure at General Motors is focused on creating and deploying smart transportation solutions powered by zero emissions. Previously, she oversaw creating the blueprint for EV centric mobility solutions and informing investments in charging infrastructure for Maven, General Motors’ urban mobility group. Since joining GM, Ms. Helfrich has overseen the deployment of hundreds of electric vehicles across major U.S. cities. In evaluating how the cars function within each landscape, she partners with cities, utilities, and charging companies to craft strategies to optimize further growth. Prior to General Motors, Ms. Helfrich worked at Evercar, a startup which applied the solar power purchase agreement model to transportation electrification by renting electric vehicles to municipalities and rideshare drivers on a total cost of ownership basis. She is also co-founder and president of a nonprofit established in 2007 which is focused on youth education and development in Detroit and East Africa. Ms. Helfrich studied Economics and Business at Central Michigan University and received a master's from Indiana University in Bloomington.
Scott Keogh is chief executive officer and president of Volkswagen Group of America and head of the Volkswagen brand in North America. He assumed the position in November 2018 and oversees all Volkswagen brand activities in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, including factories in Tennessee and Mexico. As head of the Group, he heads the U.S. operations of Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and VW Credit Inc. Prior to this role, Mr. Keogh was president of Audi of America, where he led the brand to continual new monthly sales records. He oversaw strategic forays into new vehicle segments in the American market and crucial product launches that significantly broadened the Audi product line in the U.S. Mr. Keogh also helped forge new marketing relationships for the brand. And he made priorities of sharpening the Audi dealer network and of promoting the vast improvements in Audi product quality. Mr. Keogh stepped into the top management position at Audi in June 2012 after serving as chief marketing officer for six years. As CMO, he led the revival of the Audi brand with innovative marketing tactics that lead to record awareness and brand strength. He joined Audi from a position as general manager of marketing communications for Mercedes-Benz USA.
Heidi King is the principal at Heidi R. King Analytic Consulting, with extensive experience in regulation, public policy, and the economics of safety, innovation, and risk management in both the public and private sectors. Ms. King most recently served as acting administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) where she was responsible for motor vehicle regulation, research and traffic safety programs, with the goal of reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses from motor vehicle crashes. Prior to leading NHTSA, Ms. King headed a global team of risk management professionals at GE Capital responsible for identifying and managing opportunities and risks associated with regulation, environmental impacts, health and safety across a diverse portfolio of investments throughout the world. Ms. King has served as chief economist for the Committee on Energy and Commerce in the U.S. House of Representatives where she focused on regulatory policy, and has served three White House administrations as a policy analyst at the Office of Management and Budget. In the private sector, her strategic quantitative analysis has supported core business decisions of both large and small firms including Pfizer Global Pharmaceuticals, General Electric and Dun and Bradstreet. Ms. King has an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of California at Irvine and a M.Sc. in economics from the California Institute of Technology.
Daniel Laury is the co-founder and CEO of Udelv, a company pioneering autonomous delivery. In January 2018, with his team of engineers, he spearheaded the world’s first public road autonomous delivery in California. In 2019, after releasing its second-generation vehicle, Udelv has successfully completed more than 20,000 automated deliveries on behalf of a variety of retailers that include Walmart in Phoenix, AZ and XL Parts in TX. Prior to Udelv, Mr. Laury founded and ran several companies, including Geary LSF, the 4th largest US independent digital marketing agency according to Advertising Age in 2013, with $120M in media under management and 240 people worldwide. Prior to Geary LSF, he founded Luckysurf.com, the world’s first free online lottery, and 17th most visited site in the world by December 2000, raised $40M in funding and successfully sold it in 2008. He started his career at the prestigious investment bank, Brown Brothers Harriman in New York and Paris. Mr. Laury is also an investor in high tech through his VC fund, The Explorer Group and Chairman of Halt Homelessness, a nonprofit organization he created to combat homelessness in San Francisco. He holds an MBA from top French business school ESSEC and was Co-Chair of SEMPO San Francisco. He is a patron of the San Francisco Opera and the Symphony.
Jonathan Levy is chief commercial officer at EVgo, the nation’s largest public network of fast chargers for electric vehicles. In this capacity, Mr. Levy manages the EVgo team responsible for revenue generation and strategic partnerships, marketing and communications, network planning and public funding, and advancing transportation electrification market development. Prior to joining EVgo, Mr. Levy was the director of policy and strategy at Vision Ridge Partners, an investment firm focused on sustainable real assets based in Boulder, Colorado. Mr. Levy started his career on Capitol Hill as a policy advisor to then-Congressman Rahm Emanuel and served in the Obama Administration in a variety of positions at the U.S. Department of Energy and the White House, concluding his federal service as deputy chief of staff to U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. Over the course of his career, Mr. Levy has consistently tackled issues at the intersection of policy, politics, and execution. He serves on the Board of Directors of Veloz and the Electric Drive Transportation Association. He graduated magna cum laude from Emory University with a B.A. in Political Science.

Nadeemm Sheikh is the vice president of self-driving vehicle programs at Lyft. He is responsible for Lyft’s overall roadmap for scaling self-driving technology. He leads business development & operations teams in engaging the automotive ecosystem and building new capabilities to support and accelerate self-driving cars on Lyft’s network. Mr. Sheikh earned his MBA from the University of California, Berkeley and his BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Prior to Lyft, Mr. Sheikh was a member of the executive team of Opower, an energy-focused software company which reached over 100M consumers globally and went public in 2014. He built & led Opower’s business outside the Americas, including Asia, Japan, and Europe, responsible for sales, marketing, government affairs and customer success. Mr. Sheikh was also a consultant at McKinsey & Company, where he was a founding member of the firm’s Sustainability Practice and worked extensively in the automotive sector. He developed some of the firm’s foundational thinking on vehicle electrification, battery technology, shared mobility business models, and EV charging infrastructure.
Ken Obuszewski is the global general manager of NetApp’s automotive vertical responsible for sales and go-to-market strategy. Mr. Obuskewski joined NetApp in December 2019 and he and his team are focused on the needs of the major OEMs and Tier One automotive suppliers. The charter of his group is to provide data solutions that address the challenges of connected, electric and autonomous vehicles, and Factory 4.0 for the manufacturing process. The NetApp data fabric enables data mobility and agility for the cloud and the core. Prior to NetApp, Mr. Obuszewski led automotive focused teams at Intel, Freescale and Blackberry.
Tara Prakriya is a general manager in Microsoft’s Azure division focused on mobility, automotive and transportation. She rejoins Microsoft after a fun ride as CPO of a startup in enterprise AI, Maana, from seed to just before the close of series C. Prior to that she worked at Microsoft cumulatively for 15 years in Windows, and Bing. She also had roles at Merck and Scantron. In these roles she has tackled machine learning, enterprise AI, big data analytics, content management, handwriting recognition, ink / touch and new hardware, educational LMS systems, and online advertising. She’s an AI pragmatist and believes the most important part of any solution is identifying and decomposing the right question.
Craig Renneker is vice president, driveline product engineering for American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM). He is responsible for all product engineering activities for the Driveline division. Mr. Renneker joined AAM in January, 2019 having recently retired from Ford Motor Company following 18.5 years as chief engineer in Transmission & Driveline Engineering. During that time, he oversaw the development and launch of 18 new automatic transmissions, hybrid and electric drives. Prior to Ford, he spent 9 years at Daimler-Chrysler (FCA) and 7 years at General Motors, all in automatic transmission development. Mr. Renneker is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and a former advisory board member and speaker for the Car Training Institute Transmission symposium. He earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1986 and a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University in 1987.
Nigel Tracey graduated from the University of York in England (Computer Science Department) in 1996. He went on to complete his Doctorate in 2000 based on original research into automated software testing for safety-critical applications whilst a research associate at the University of York. Dr. Tracey started working for ETAS (part of the Bosch Group) in 2003 and is general manager for the ETAS Embedded Software development centre in the UK and vice president for the RTA Solutions business unit. The RTA embedded software products are deployed in more than 2 billion ECUs around the world with a further 2-3 million being produced each week.
Madison White has a broad range of experience in the definition and execution of effective technology, product management and marketing strategies; launching high quality software solutions for both safety and non-critical systems. As a member of Ricardo North America’s Technology and Strategy team, she drives strategy software solutions for connected, automated and autonomous vehicles – from connected vehicle and digital twin technology enablement to the development and deployment of safe, secure service-oriented architectures for next generation software defined vehicles.
John Bozzella, a veteran auto industry executive, is president and CEO of the Alliance for Automotive Innovation (Auto Innovators). From 2014 until the establishment of Auto Innovators in January 2020, he served as president and CEO of the Association of Global Automakers, the trade association whose members included the U.S operations of international automobile and light-duty truck manufacturers that sold products in the United States. Previously, Mr. Bozella served as a senior operating executive for Cerberus Operations and Advisory Company, LLC, where he worked with the firm and its portfolio companies on a range of public policy and economic development matters. He served as senior vice president of External Affairs and Public Policy at Chrysler Group in 2009, and vice president of External Affairs and Public Policy for Chrysler LLC from 2007 to 2009. In this capacity, he mobilized government support to significantly restructure Chrysler. From 2005 to 2007, Mr. Bozella spent two years with DaimlerChrysler Corporation as vice president of External Affairs and Public Policy for the Americas. He was with Ford Motor Company from 1994 to 2005 in positions in public policy, and government and community relations, and labor relations. Prior to joining the automotive industry, Mr. Bozella served as New York City's director of state legislative affairs under Mayor David N. Dinkins. He began his career in public policy as the director of Legislative and Political Action for the United Federation of Teachers. He is a graduate of Cornell University.
John Krafcik is the CEO of Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to get where they’re going. Under his leadership, Google's self-driving car project became Waymo, an independent Alphabet Inc. company. Since then Waymo has test-driven the world’s first fleet of fully autonomous vehicles on public roads without a driver at the wheel, completed more than 20 million autonomous miles, and struck up partnerships with Jaguar Land Rover, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Renault, Nissan, Lyft, Avis, AutoNation and more. In 2018, Waymo launched its commercial ride hailing service, Waymo One, in Phoenix, Arizona, which is now operating 100% fully autonomously with no human driver. With experience in both auto and tech, Mr. Krafcik holds broad operating experience in engineering, product development, technology, and manufacturing, with stints at NUMMI, Ford, Hyundai and TrueCar. Previously, Mr. Krafcik spent 10 years in leadership positions at Hyundai Motor America, including 5 years as president and CEO, where he was responsible for the strategic direction and management of the company’s U.S. operations. Mr. Krafcik earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an M.S. in management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he wrote two "lean production" manifestos -- "Triumph of the Lean Production System" and the "Running the Factory" chapter of "The Machine That Changed the World."
Sherif Marakby was named Magna International’s executive vice president of research and development in July 2020. In this role, he will manage all aspects of the company’s innovation and new product strategy and development both at a corporate level and in conjunction with Magna’s product groups. Mr. Marakby has been in automotive and technology industries for 30 years and comes to Magna from Ford Motor Company, where he held a variety of product development and engineering leadership positions. He has extensive experience in electrification, having led the Ford team in developing a battery electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles. Mr. Marakby also served as president and CEO of Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC, and was on the board of directors for Argo AI, Ford’s self-driving technology partner. Additionally, he spent time with Uber as vice president of global vehicle programs, leading the integration of their autonomous software into production OEM vehicles. He holds a master’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
